JEFFERSON BOOK PRESS 15439.1 Arlington, Va
The original "Book Press" was designed by Thomas Jefferson to contain his personal library, at Monticello. Jefferson conceived the stacked sets of boxes so they could have covers applied to their fronts, in order to secure the books during his travels. When the library was donated as seed stock for the Library of Congress, the originals were lost or destroyed.
Working from the research of architectural historians, Jaeger & Ernst have recreated a tier of dovetailed boxes of solid mahogany, each with a slip-dovetailed shelf. Custom designed furniture and cabinetry opens doorways into history by allowing for the authentic recreation of unique designs from our nations past.
